This Photo: This is one of my favorite of my own photographs, in part because of how unexpected it was (also, this is one of my favorite bridges). I had shot a number of dusk shots of the bridge from one of the docks on the bayfront (none of them really came out as I'd wanted) and after packing up my photo gear, I was driving up the hill toward highway 101 when, as it was almost completely dark, I saw this view out the driver side window and decided to shoot the last two frames on my roll of film of this bridge.
This shot is overexposed at two minutes - the actual view was almost pure darkness, I could hardly even see the bridge through my lens to focus - but the effect is really nice. It was a clear night, enough to light up the bridge like this. Lights from the cars and trucks going over the bridge probably helped to light it.
Yaquina Bay Bridge: This masterpiece and Oregon coast landmark was designed by Conde B. McCullough - one of numerous functional
and beautiful bridges he designed in Oregon in the 1920's and 30's. The bridge is at the south part of Newport, Oregon on US Highway 101.
